Auchentoshan means āthe corner of the fieldā in the local dialect (Gaelic). This is appropriate, since it was first established in 1823 by John Bullock, a local corn merchant. It went bankrupt in 1828, after which Bullockās son took over and tried to make a run at the distilling business.
